Aviation Security Awareness
This NZCAA approved course has been developed for staff serving Airline Operations (Part 125, 121 Operations). It is applicable to any person holding an Aviation Security Card. This course covers an employee’s responsibility as an Avsec Card Holder, Regulatory requirements and actions to be taken in the event of a security incident. Once completed, the course is valid for three years. You should allow at least 2 hours to complete the course and the final exam.
Dangerous Goods Training
NZCAA changed the rules for Dangerous Goods certification in 2023. The NZCAA no longer approve Web Based Training for DG certification in NZ (although the AC approves electronic courses for No Carry Operators).
However, the rest of the South Pacific are still happy to train and certify aviation staff using web based training. This course is suitable for Rarotonga, Samoa and Vanuatu. We haven't renewed the Australian CASA approval. The Fiji DG course is next.
We still offer the course in NZ for trainees who want to obtain the knowledge required to transport dangerous goods on aircraft. You should allow at last 3 hours reading and studying the course material. An exam is available once you have read through the course to test your understanding of the subject.
Dangerous Goods Awareness Fiji
The Dangerous Goods Awareness course is approved by the Fijian CAAF. Once completed you are able to handle Dangerous Goods that have already been processed by qualified agents. You will be able to recognise articles that may pose a hazard to aircraft or people and will have a good knowledge of what articles a person can take on board a passenger aircraft. You should allow at least 3 hours reading and studying of the course material. An exam is available once you have read through the course. This is a multi-choice exam and a 80% pass mark is required. Once completed, the course is valid for 2 years.
Crew Resource Management (CRM)
This comprehensive course is suitable for both an initial introduction to CRM and for that annual refresher. This is a vast subject and we have created this course so that it incorporates as many of the key factors contributing to good CRM as possible within the one course. Just reading the history and the reasons why CRM has been developed is enough to generate interest in completing the course. At the end of each module there are ‘test exams’ to enable you to monitor your understanding. An initial read of the course should take approximately 3 hours and we suspect that the majority of readers would go back to some modules for revision before attempting the exam.
Command CRM
Designed for First Officers who are undertaking the transition to Captain and for the refresher course for Captains. It contains further in-depth material which is presented from a Command perspective. An additional 40 minutes should be allowed for this addition to the main course.
Human Factors Ground Crew
Applicable to ground staff who are working to support an Aircraft Operation, it is designed to enhance Employees awareness of the Human Factors which could cause or contribute towards incidents, while at the same time providing the tools to recognise and manage threats, and to develop strategies to prevent and manage mistakes. Students should allow 1-2 hours for this course.
Human Factors Flight & Cabin Crew
Applicable to both Flight and Cabin crew, this course is designed for those operators who are introducing the Human Factors into their previous CRM training programs and/or for the individual crew member who wants to understand the influence that Human Factors have during a duty. It is designed to enhance Aircrew awareness of Human Factors which could cause, or exacerbate, incidents which affect the safe conduct of our air operations, while at the same time providing the tools to manage threats and develop strategies to prevent and manage crew error. Allow 2 hours for this course.
Human Factors Maintenance (Engineers)
A very comprehensive course ideally suited for maintenance staff as an introduction to Human Factors or for those wanting to refresh their knowledge. Readers of the course will learn the importance of Human Factor training to the industry, the relationship between Incidents and Human Factors (Errors) and appreciate the ‘Murphy’s Law’ aspect. It covers human capabilities and limitations in the workplace. Students should allow at least 3-4 hours for this course.
Performance Based Navigation (PBN)
This new course replaces the GNSS course. GNSS theory is now covered in the Instrument Rating syllabus and exams. In addition to the GNSS rating endorsement on an Instrument Rating a PBN endorsement is required based on the PBN specification for aircraft operations – RNP 1 and 2, RNP APCH, or RNP APCH – AR.
This course meets the requirements set in the NZ CAA Advisory Circular AC61-17 Appendix III –PBN Knowledge. It covers all of the PBN Specifications. You are only required to train up to the PBN Specification that will be demonstrated in your flight test so we have exams to match your training requirements, with certificates and exam feedback (KDR).
We also have a brief summary of your GPS unit, we offer Avidyne IFD 550, Boeing Smiths FMS, Collins Pro Line 21/FMS 3000, Garmin 1000, Garmin GTN 650/750, Garmin 430W/530W, and GNX 375. As this course includes an assessment and certification it must be conducted by a Part 141 Training Organisation.
NDB/ADF Knowledge
After a re-write of the Instrument Rating course syllabus the ADF/NDB knowledge was removed as subject knowledge. Pilots can still get an ADF/NDB endorsement on their Instrument Rating after gaining the knowledge and demonstrating skill by passing a flight examiner test.
This course covers AC61 – 17 Appendix IV ADF/NDB Theory Course Syllabus. After successful completion we will provide you with a certificate and exam feedback to present to the flight examiner.
Noise Abatement Awareness - Fixed Wing
This course was developed to meet the Department of Conservation requirements, and is approved by the Department of Conservation for aircraft operation to complete a “Noise Awareness’ course prior to being granted a concession to fly in ‘Noise Sensitive Areas’ under DOC control. This course covers Fixed Wing Operations with data gained from aircraft manufacturers. This course will take 1.5 hours to complete.
Noise Abatement Awareness - Helicopter
This course was developed to meet the Department of Conservation requirements, and is approved by the Department of Conservation for aircraft operation to complete a “Noise Awareness’ course prior to being granted a concession to fly in ‘Noise Sensitive Areas’ under DOC control. This course covers Helicopter Operations with data gained from aircraft manufacturers. This course will take 1.5 hours to complete.
Extended Diversion Time Operations (EDTO)
This course has been developed for Operators who have pilots either ‘new’ to Extended Range Operations, or those requiring ‘refresher training’. Being updated to NZCAA Part 121 amendment 21, this course is current and at its completion the reader will have an understanding of External Diversion Time Operations from the Operator approvals required through to the Piloting aspects of Flight Planning and Alternate requirements, Pre and In-Flight Procedures, as well as Contingency Procedures. You should allow 2 hours to complete both the course and the final exam.
RVSM/RNP
This course is designed for those pilots preparing to operate into RVSM and RNP airspace. It covers a short History of the development of RVSM and RNP, Operational and Regulatory Requirements and contingency procedures for these airspaces. Assuming that at this stage in his or her career the reader is trained either in Airline Operations or High performance aircraft the course should take approximately 1hr 15 minutes to complete.
South Pacific Airport Briefs
The airport briefs contain important information specific to the applicable Port. Typically the brief will contain information relating to Local Geography, Climate, Regulatory Requirements, Airspace, Approach and Departure Procedures and any specific Flight Planning requirements. These courses are often used to form part of the pre-flight planning brief. Time for each brief varies between 30 minutes to an hour. We currently have briefs for the following airports: Apia, Cairns, Canberra, Dunedin, Hobart, Honiara, Nadi, Norfolk Island, Pago Pago, Papeete, Port Moresby, Port Vila, Queenstown, Rarotonga, Sydney, Tonga, Tontouta, Townsville and Wellington.
